A Mexican **cuota compensatoria** is determined by the applicable official resolution, not by a broad product category or by China origin alone. Before quoting landed cost, compare the shipment with the current final resolution and any later review, amendment, clarification or expiry decision.

5. **Rate and calculation:** is it ad valorem, specific, reference-price based or otherwise defined, and what customs-value or quantity basis applies?
6. **Status:** is the measure provisional or definitive, still within its validity period, under review, extended, modified, revoked or clarified by a later publication?

A mismatch on one element can change coverage or the amount. Ask a licensed customs broker to confirm the live result before ordering and again before entry.

## Why a category list is unsafe

Official decisions concern defined goods. A phrase such as “steel product,” “textile,” “ceramic” or “chemical” is too broad to establish liability. Two products under nearby codes can differ in specifications, origin, producer treatment or current validity.
