# Air freight from China

Description: How air freight from China is priced and planned — chargeable and volumetric weight, worked examples, dangerous goods and lithium batteries, transit times and when air beats ocean.

By mode

Air freight is priced on chargeable weight, not on what the scale says — the greater of actual weight and volume ÷ 6000. Light bulky cargo therefore costs far more than importers expect, and the gap is usually discovered at the airport. The other thing worth settling early is whether the goods can fly at all: batteries, aerosols, magnets and anything with a lithium cell have their own rules, and finding out after the booking is expensive.
